Hornby Island Community Economic Enhancement Corporation (HICEEC)
HICEEC is a non-profit corporation established in 1996 to foster a healthy, sustainable and diversified economy on Hornby Island. Hornby Island Residents' and Ratepayers Association (HIRRA)
The aim of the association is to contribute to the ongoing evolution of a vibrant, self-governing community that supports and nurtures the well being of all islanders and of the island itself. Services administered by HIRRA are the Community Hall, the Regional Park and the Fire Protection/First Responders', Recycling, Recreation and outhouse programs. HIRRA provides a forum for discussion of community issues. Membership is open to all persons of voting age who own property on the Island or have resided here for at least six months. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday each month (except August) at 7:30pm at the Community Hall.

Hornby Festival Society
The Festival Society promotes and fosters appreciation of and interest in the arts through the presentation of artistic and cultural events. It aims to enrich the lives of all islanders through a greater awareness of the arts and culture. The Society organizes an annual ten-day multi-disciplinary summer festival plus a series of winter concerts. Members, volunteers and sponsors are welcome.

Hornby Island Arts Council (HIAC)
The purpose of the Arts Council is to stimulate, encourage, support and develop the varied artistic and cultural projects and activities on Hornby Island. HIAC runs the Arts Resource Centre (ARC) near the Community Hall. HIAC operates the Arts Resource Centre (ARC), which is located behind the Community Hall and the Clinic. HIAC also hosts art shows, workshops and artist talks at the ARC.

Hornby Island Blues Society
The purpose of the society is to educate the membership and general public in the playing, singing, composing, recording and appreciation of Blues music. This is done through workshops, scholarships to young musicians, programs that introduce children to Blues music in school, live performances of music and maintaining equipment for use in society and community events. Blues Week is an annual spring event which attracts the best in Canadian Blues players for an intensive workshop experience and an extraordinary opportunity to view live performance. Hornby Island Radio Society
The Radio Society's mission is to provide interactive radio programming produced for the Island by Islanders. The focus will be upon relatively unheard music and Canadian talent, including Hornby and other Gulf Island performers. The station will provide local news, cover local events and be a source of information with respect to ferry problems, storm warnings and emergency situations. Equipment has been purchased, permits have been obtained and the studio is now being completed. A box at the FREE POST can be used to submit programming proposals.

Hornby Island Theatre Society
HITS began its 22 season run in 1984, and by now has done over 40 productions. It’s a hardworking, award-winning, nonprofit theatre “company” whose aim is to bring the magic of the stage to our island. Community run, HITS uses mostly local talent to mount two to three shows a year, which aim at professionalism in spite of limited resources. They are always looking for new talent, which includes many skills besides acting: stage management, set construction and costume design, direction, production, promotion,etc. Auditions and recruitment are advertised in general mail-outs of flyers and on posters well in advance of opening night.

Environmental Organizations
Hornby Water Stewardship Project
The Hornby Water Stewardship Project started 1996. Since then, 1300 water tests and studies have revealed significant surface and ground water contamination and stress on groundwater aquifers. In order to foster needed conservation and protection by each of us as individuals, Water Stewardship provides incentive through increased awareness and education and then provides the tools to support the appropriate action. In this regard services include; well water quality testing; rain barrels sales; provision of brochures on water conservation and septic system operation; organization of rainwater catchment and other educational workshops; and the operation of a water information library.

Conservancy Hornby Island
CHI is a charitable Society formed to foster stewardship of Hornby Island and its surrounding waters. On-going programs include bird counts, removal of invasive species and providing support for landowners interested in conservation.

Health Care & Education Based Organizations
Hornby Island Education Society (HIES)
HIES is a non-profit organization with charitable tax status incorporated as Society in 1980 to build and manage the Room to Grow building. A volunteer Board oversee the following Community Programs - Teen Drop Ins, Toddler Drop Ins, Parent Education and Support programs, Teen Tutoring Support, After School Programs, Hot Lunch in the School, Food Bank, The Kitchen (serves free meals three times per week to community members), Job Shop, Computer Access Site, Continuing Education and support for Post Secondary students. HIES owns, manages and maintains Room to Grow, the Teen Trailer and the HOPE Kitchen building and owns four small sail boats that are used in the summer recreation sailing classes. HIES manages the Hornby Island Community Fund and a number of bursaries and scholarships. Sources of funding include user fees, fundraising and grants.

Hornby Island Community School
Hornby Island Community School provides for the educational needs of children from Kindergarten to grade seven and has access to the resources provided by School District 71. The school is a beautiful facility with many exceptional programs offered to enrich the regular curriculum. It works closely with H.I.E.S. to address the needs of community members of all ages for life long learning. To see the school, check the recently updated website.

Hornby Denman Community Health Care Society
The Society is a non-profit, community-based health services delivery organization which provides home support, counselling, community support, and voluntary programs. It provides a lending library and homecare equipment for loan. Education programs and workshops are offered.

Hornby Island Elder Housing Society
This non-profit, charitable Society builds and operates convenient and affordable housing for Islanders 55 years and older. The housing is located at The Village, a 5-acre site located at 5775 Central Road, near the Co-op corner. Fundraising to keep The Village flourishing and affordable is ongoing: the society relies on the generosity of Hornby Islanders and the goodwill of volunteers to keep the rents as low as possible.

ISLA: Islanders' Secure
Land Association
ISLA is a community land trust formed to serve Hornby Island by securing stable housing for residents through holding land in trust to eliminate the price of land from housing costs. Volunteers welcome.
You can assist these efforts by becoming a member, donating money, or helping with other tasks that will move the initiative forward.

Heron Rocks Friendship Centre Society
The Society cares for the nine acres of land donated to the Society by the late Hilary Brown for conservation and as a centre for activities to involve our rural community in issues of environment, peace human equality and conflict resolution. The Society sponsors a range of activities including the Water Stewardship Project and speakers for the Under the Maple summer program and the winter Literary Lunches.

Hornby Island Athletic Association (HIAA)
At Joe King Park located on Central Road, you will find a 3D barn, a playing field, a pay phone, public washrooms, showers and laundry facilities, a tennis/roller blade court, clubhouse, kitchen and indoor event space plus a new indoor fitness centre. Annual membership is required and costs $15.00 per individual, or $35 per family. You can purchase a membership from the Hornby Island Co-op Gas Bar or at any Joe King Event.

Hornby Island Co-operative Society
The Co-op provides residents and visitors with a wide range of products and services including: groceries, produce, meat & deli goods, hardware & general merchandise, fuel & propane, liquor outlet, Post Office and many more services for members. We support the Island mandate of recycling and responsible environmental stewardship. We also provide product and financial support for all our nonprofit Island groups with particular emphasis on our children, youth programs and scholarships. Membership information is available at our Customer Service desk and on website.
The Co-op is open seven days a week, 9:30am to 6pm during the summer and Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 5:30pm during the rest of the year. The Gas Bar is open 8am to 7pm, daily during the summer and Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm for the balance of the year.

Hornby Island New Horizons Society
New Horizons offers a meaningful program of social, educational, creative and physical activities for its members. To join a person has to be 50 years or older. The membership fee is $20. Current activities include the weekly Literary Lunch, Scottish dancing, yoga, bowling, salsa and cha-cha dancing, bridge club, bowling club, book club and t'ai chi. Hornby Island Cats Society
This not-for-profit registered Society is committed to reducing the number of unwanted cats on Hornby Island. A humane Trap-Neuter-Release program is applied to feral cats. Financial assistance is offered to pet owners for spaying/neutering domestic cats. Make sure to visit the Cat Society table at the Farmers Market during the summer months.
