Snuggled deep within the heart of Hornby Island's whispering fern filled forests, close to the creek and the mantra of rushing water, lies deerheart sanctuary. A simple refuge for heart and spirit, deerheart offers the opportunity for meditative inquiry, yoga practice, healing, rest, and solitude.

Bodywork at Deerheart

Michelle St. Pierre studied zen shiatsu at the Shiatsu Centre in Toronto with Tetsuro Saito and was certified in 1989. A resident of Hornby Island and founder of deerheart sanctuary, Michelle has been offering body and energy work sessions for 17 years. She has midwifed many circles and healing gatherings across Canada, taught energy awareness and meditation in Winnipeg and is committed to the path of the awakened heart. She is a student of Adyashanti.

jennifer armstrong - Island Yoga

jennifer was introduced to yoga over 17 years ago, here on Hornby Island. Since that time she has had the opportunity to study with such recognized Iyengar, Ashtanga & Yin Yoga teachers as Faeq Biria, David Swenson, Paul Grilley and extensively with Shirley Daventry-French. Also a practitioner of Vipassana meditation for over 15 years, jennifer's teaching style combines her knowledge of precise alignment & inward focus with her natural enthusiasm, creating a way to safely discover joy and ease in the practice.

Elke Rosendahl ~ Inner Sanctum Studio

Elke has been practicing body work and healing on Hornby Island since 1990. At Inner Sanctum Studio she offers Shiatsu, Reiki, Massage, Breath Work, Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal chi massage), and Chair Massage. Elke is a Reiki Master/Teacher and has a background of 20 years in whole foods nutrition, Bach Flower Remedies, Jin Shin Do,yoga, counselling and meditation. In addition to her holistic healing practice on Hornby Island, Elke teaches and volunteers her skills internationally in New Zealand, Europe and Africa. She is a passionate sailor.

Each treatment at Inner Sanctum Studio is customized to your specific constitution and life stage. Couples massage, with two practitioners, is also available at Inner Sanctum. The serene and zen-like design of Inner Sanctum Studio provides a peaceful atmosphere to set the tone for a Lightness of Being. Elke's Studio, situated on Cowie Road, was created by Hornby artist Dean Samuel.
